FAQs

FAQ’s about Employer of Record services in South Africa

Can a foreign company hire employees in South Africa without a local entity?

Yes. RecruitMyMom’s Employer of Record service provides a local employment arrangement that enables an international business to engage South African employees permanently without establishing its own local entity, subject to the applicable legal and employment requirements.

Can we use RecruitMyMom’s EOR service if we have already found our employee?

Yes. You do not need to recruit through RecruitMyMom. We can provide EOR services for suitable employees you have already identified.

Who is responsible for the employee’s day-to-day work?

Your business directs the employee’s daily responsibilities, performance objectives and operational work. RecruitMyMom manages the agreed local employment payroll administration and employer responsibilities, subject to applicable South African labour and tax laws.

How much does an Employer of Record cost in South Africa?

RecruitMyMom’s EOR management fee is cost-effective at 15% of the employee’s monthly salary, capped at R6,600 per employee per month, excluding VAT where applicable. Salary, applicable employer contributions, agreed benefits, and any separately agreed services are additional.

Do you charge onboarding or offboarding fees?

We do not charge standard onboarding or offboarding administration fees. Any statutory termination payments, outstanding employee entitlements or separately agreed exceptional services are treated independently of the monthly management fee.

Can we pay our South African employees in GBP, USD or EUR?

International clients may fund employment costs in ZAR or an agreed foreign currency. RecruitMyMom does not add a separate FX mark-up, although actual banking charges remain payable by the client for the elected foreign exchange currency.

Is there a minimum number of employees?

Our EOR service can support the employment of a single suitable professional, as well as businesses developing larger South African teams.

How quickly can we employ someone through an EOR?

Onboarding times depend on the proposed employment arrangement, documentation, compliance checks and receipt of the required funding. Our team will confirm the process and anticipated start date after reviewing your requirements.

Does an EOR eliminate every legal and tax obligation for our business?

No. An EOR manages defined local employment obligations, but international businesses may still need advice on matters such as corporate tax exposure, permanent establishment, intellectual property, data protection and the structure of the working relationship.

How do international payments work?

All employee remuneration, statutory employment costs and EOR fees are calculated in South African Rands (ZAR), unless otherwise preferred by the client.

Clients may pay in ZAR or an agreed foreign currency. Any actual international banking and currency conversion costs are for the client’s account.

Where a foreign-currency payment results in a small difference between the ZAR amount invoiced and the net amount received, the difference is reconciled on the following month’s invoice. Material shortfalls, including any amount required to fund payroll, must be settled by the agreed payroll deadline.

We do not add a separate percentage-based exchange-rate margin.

Is the security deposit refundable?

Yes. A refundable deposit equivalent to one month’s gross base salary is required for each employee.

The deposit is held in ZAR as security for obligations under the EOR arrangement and is reconciled when the arrangement ends. Any remaining balance is refunded in accordance with the service agreement.
